Vitamin Injections
IM Shots: B12, MIC, Vitamin D and Glutathione Explained
Not every wellness protocol needs an IV. For many patients, a short intramuscular (IM) injection delivers the same nutrient with less time, less cost and identical clinical benefit.
This guide walks through the four IM shots we use most often in preventive wellness — vitamin B12, MIC, Vitamin D and Glutathione — and how our team decides which one fits.
Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin)
B12 is essential for red blood cell production, neurologic function and energy metabolism. Deficiency is common in vegetarians, older adults, patients on metformin or acid-blockers, and anyone with a history of gastric surgery.
IM B12 bypasses gut absorption entirely, which is why it’s the standard treatment when levels are low or symptoms — fatigue, brain fog, tingling — persist despite oral supplementation.
MIC (methionine, inositol, choline)
MIC is a combination of three lipotropic compounds that support fat metabolism, liver function and methylation. It’s frequently paired with medically supervised weight-loss protocols alongside GLP-1 therapy, nutrition coaching and resistance training.
MIC is not a weight-loss drug on its own. It supports a broader metabolic program — which is why we always pair it with labs, follow-up and a written plan.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common findings on our intake panels, even in Florida. It matters for immune function, mood, bone health and metabolic regulation.
For patients with very low levels or malabsorption, an IM Vitamin D injection restores serum 25-OH vitamin D faster than oral dosing. Follow-up labs at 8–12 weeks confirm you’re in the target range.
Glutathione
Glutathione is the body’s master antioxidant and a key cofactor in liver detoxification. Levels decline with age, chronic illness and oxidative stress.
Patients often report benefits for skin clarity, recovery and general well-being. As with every therapy on this list, it’s a tool that fits inside a plan — not a standalone answer.
Who typically benefits
IM shots are a good fit for patients with confirmed deficiencies, patients in a weight-loss or metabolic health program, athletes in a recovery block, or anyone in the middle of a demanding season who wants targeted support without a full IV.
They are not a substitute for sleep, protein, hydration, resistance training or a real diagnosis when symptoms warrant one.
The consultation process
Every IM injection at VitaFlowFL follows an intake, a medication review and, when relevant, baseline labs. Same-visit injections are common for follow-up patients. New patients start with a discovery consultation so the plan matches the biology.
Every VitaFlowFL protocol starts with a physician-led consultation, comprehensive labs, and a written plan — so care is personalized, monitored, and safe.
Frequently asked questions
+IM shot or IV drip — which do I need?
If you need one specific nutrient at a therapeutic dose, an IM shot is usually enough. If you also need hydration or multiple nutrients in one session, an IV drip is the better fit.
+How often can I get a B12 or MIC injection?
Most patients do B12 weekly or every other week. MIC is often paired with a weight-loss program and dosed 1–2 times per week during an active protocol.
+Do I need labs first?
For deficiency workups (B12, vitamin D), yes. For maintenance injections in an established patient, we usually re-check labs every 6–12 months.
